Wongawilli, a Tradition of Ministry

Friday, July 22nd, 2005

Today (24th July, 2005), as we meet to weigh up the best use of our property for ministry, it’s good to remember the fine gospel tradition at Wongawilli.

Gwyn D learned about Jesus there through the weekly Sunday school. His mum didn’t talk much about her faith, but always sent him along. Heather B learnt about Jesus there too, and her great aunt Miss Gertie Smith taught classes there.

Telling people about Jesus is still out first priority. And doing this brings glory to God, as men and women and children find forgiveness and new life. Out church seeks to share this gospel using all of our people and resources.

During the wear the hall was used to raise funds for the cause. The women’s guild was very active, and they’d polish floorboards with kerosene and wood chips for the dances.

The gospel continued to be preached in monthly church services until 1972. At that time, the church donated most of their pews and other furnishing to St Aidan’s. The hall is now used for Op Shop storage, and so is still in the use for our Lord’s work.

DAC Welcomes Children

Sunday, July 10th, 2005

Something special happened last week. Even before the official start of DAC Attack, boggle eyed children came into the office saying, “We saw her shoes!” That’s right; they had seen a pair of Dorothy’s glittering red shoes.

And for three days Dorothy and Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion, explored the Yellow Brick Road. The scarecrow discovered he did have a brain after all, since the Wonderful Maker of All wants him to “Love the Lord your God with all your heard, soul and mind”. We must have a brain if our Maker wants us to love Him with it!

Similarly, the Tin Man found hes heart in the commandment to “Love others as yourselves”. And the Lion drew courage from God’s words, “Don’t be afraid. I am with you. Don’t tremble with fear. I am your God”.

But how will Dorothy get home? Could the cross-shaped Yellow Brick Road be a clue? All will be revealed at the Family Service today at the Ministry Centre…

Around 140 kids spent last week having fun while they learned more about Jesus through drama, craft, talks, games and over morning tea! Congratulations to Mary, leading actors Emma, Nathan, Elise, Ben, Naomi and the team of 35 leaders and helpers. It’s exciting to see God in action!
