Lighten the Load
During the storm God sent on Jonah’s escape boat (Jonah 1:4-5) the crew went into survival mode. They threw the cargo into the sea so that the boat would be lighter and more likely to survive. Their survival tactic was to lighten their load.
Our world spends billions of dollars in advertising, encouraging us to increase our debt. Our financially insane environment has a simple message; spend, spend, spend!
The result is that many of us struggle under a financial burden of debt. The freedom and life Jesus offers us gets lost in a fog of interest and pressure.
Jesus offers his financial plan for free in Matthew chapter 6.
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?
Matthew 6:25
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
