1440 Opportunities Per Day

Each person on earth gets 1440 minutes per day. Rich people, poor people, young people, and old people all get the same amount of time. Each one of us gets all the time that is available, every day. How we use that time is what makes the difference.

I often hear people lament that they run out of time or don’t have enough time. The amount of time God gives us is fixed. The key is to set our priorities and use His time for His purposes. Its interesting that people tend to have time for the things they really want to do.

Last week we were encouraged by 1 Corinthians to ensure we invested our lives in eternal things. This week we take that further as we are challenged to take up the specific roles God has in store for us.

The Three Biblical Little Pigs

Once upon a time there were three little pigs and the time came for them to leave home. Their father told them: “Each of you should be careful how he builds” (1 Cor 3:10).

The first little pig built his house out of straw (1 Cor 3:12) because it was the easiest thing to do. The second little pig built his house out of wood (1 Cor 3:12), this was a little bit stronger than a straw house. The third little pig built his house out of gold (1 Cor 3:12).

Finally the Day of Judgment came and their homes were “shown for what it is… the fire tested the quality of each mans work” (1 Cor 3:13). The first and second homes were “burned up” (1 Cor 3:14) and the little pigs “suffered loss” (1 Cor 3:14) but they themselves “were saved, but only as one escaping through the flames” (1 Cor 3:14). The third little pig’s house “survived” (1 Cor 3:14) and “he will receive his reward” (1 Cor 3:14). And he lived happily ever after.
