Mission Of Care

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

growing, gathering, caring Rarely a day goes by without stories of pain, suffering, despair and scandal flooding the mass media. Most families face a number of personal struggles on a regular basis.

Imagine a church where real care and the future hope of Christ is offered side by side. Imagine mobilising the love and resources of all our people.

Imagine a family arriving at our Preschool or Kid’s Club and the children finding a wonderful place to grow while the parents connect with Christians who offer the hope of eternity.

Imagine lives transformed as dignity, purpose and direction are restored as God is returned to the lordship of people’s lives.

Gathering

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

During this week we will be inviting builders to tender for our Stage 1 Construction. Updated plans are available for your comment in the foyer. Let me, Peter H or Henry B. know what you think.

Pray

Please pray for S & K Payne, L & H Building, Beech Constructions as they prepare their prices. Also let Peter H. or Henry B. know of any local builder you would recommend for the process.

Also pray for the Diocesan Mission Board that meets on Monday to consider how they will assist parishes who are undertaking building programs for expansion.

Baptisms

This year we will be celebrating an unprecedented number of baptisms. Already fifteen children & their families are seeking baptism services.

One of our teenagers, Ben Duckitt, has requested a full immersion baptism. We have scheduled it to occur immediately following our Easter Service at the Lake.

Anyone who feels similarly led please discuss your application with Stephen.

Celebrating & Sharing

Friday, February 8th, 2008

This week we will celebrate the extraordinary work of our Op Shop Volunteers. The Coffee & Desert Night is just a small token of our Parish’s appreciation. Despite a year of many challenges, they exceeded budget by $12,000 in 2007. They continue the tradition of sharing their success by supporting ministries in Dapto, Wollongong and throughout the world.

Their generosity has enabled our Children’s and Youth Ministries to continue our tradition and employ 3 trainees this year.

  • Amy Brown will be engaged in designing personal development plans for each child and leading the follow up teams.
  • Mel Humble will co-ordinate the Kids Club and is also establishing a Children’s Dance Ministry.
  • Christine Lane is working with the Youth Teams and helping Pete Gold co-ordinate the Friday Night Programs.

The Children’s and Youth Ministries are raising the additional funds to afford these great additions to their teams.

Reaching for the stars

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

“Look up at the heavens and count the stars – if indeed you can count them…” “So shall your offspring be.”
Genesis 15:5

Abraham received this promise at a time when the chances of him having a legitimate heir looked desperate. God came through. Now there are millions of Christians at work in the world bearing testimony to the faithfulness of God.

We believe He has given us a great mission field in the Illawarra. As we reach for the stars and seek to build God’s kingdom at this time, in this place, please pray.

Pray for the communities that surround us each day, that God will shower His love and forgiveness on them. We need to reach for all the stars God will make from our family, friends and colleagues.
