Some points of interest from our recent survey….

  • 50% of our members have joined DAC in the last 10 years.
  • 25% of all new members came from little or no church affiliation.
  • We have significantly higher education qualifications than our surrounding community.
  • We highly value Bible Teaching, Children’s Ministry and Youth Ministry.
  • We primarily want training and resources devoted to community with the non-Christian community and mentoring of our members.

The 2009 Survey shows there are many encouragements and significant challenges. Full results of the 2009 survey are available on CD (if you would like a copy, please request from the office).

Today we help resource 2010 with our thanksgiving offering.

Scott and Nat Goode and their three children: Ben, Alicia and Daniel moved into 20 Glen Ayre  Avenue Horsley on Wednesday.

Pete Gold is seeking to resource his ever expanding Youth and Young Adults Ministry and our IT work has long needed additional people resource.

Never lose concentration

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

Yesterday in Germany 200 restaurant patrons witnessed a shocking event. The dinner show featured 5 Bengal tigers. Their trainer “lost concentration” and they started to eat him. The owners made two interesting comments: “After all they are tigers. The show will go on because that’s what Christian (the trainer’s name) would have wanted.” I suspect that Christian, as he was lying in hospital in a critical condition, is more likely to want not to have been attacked.

People also have a base nature. Sin prowls just below the surface of our lives. Naturally it can spring forth without much notice. God places His Spirit within us when we become a Christian to wage war against our nature and to guide us to better decisions. Each day we must recognize the temptations we encounter and call upon God’s strength to resist. We can’t afford to lose concentration or relax our vigilance because by nature we will tend towards pleasing ourselves not God.

OPEN HEARTS TO OPEN OPPORTUNITIES.

Next week we are inviting you to respond to God’s goodness in your life with a generous thanksgiving offering. Please take the opportunity to consider what God has done for you in 2009 and help us take God to even more people in 2010.

JESUS — God’s Tactical Response

Monday, December 7th, 2009

During one of our daytime Growth Groups (Bible Study) this week there was an interruption.  Two black vehicles manned by men in full tactical response equipment parked in the driveway.

The hostess of this Growth Group was naturally curious.  They simply said to her “we need to wait in your driveway for a while ma’am:”

About an hour later they roared into action and chased a car travelling at high speed.

Two days later in the Illawarra Mercury we learned that the tactical response group had busted a major drug selling group in Dapto and Wollongong.

From the moment Adam and Eve ate the fruit in the garden, Jesus was standing by as God’s tactical response.  Jesus waited until the time was right.  He then entered our world and busted the power of sin and death.
