New Minister joins the DAC Team

Ian Rienits will be joining the Dapto Parish Ministry Team from the 31st May as Senior Assistant Minister. He joins us from Shellharbour, where he has been the Senior Minister over the last 7 years.  Immediately prior to that Ian was the Rector of Berry with Kangaroo Valley Parish for over 8 years.

His wife, Helen is a Doctor, working in a Medical Practice in Gerringong one day a week and lecturing in the Graduate School of Medicine at University of Wollongong three days a week.  Their three children – David (17), Joshua (13), Rachel (11) – all attend Shellharbour Anglican College with David currently in his HSC year.

Ian’s background is in Industrial Computer Systems Engineering, having spent 9 years in that industry – including a number of projects at the Port Kembla Steel Works.  He continues his expertise and interest in the computer field by developing software and systems to assist in the administration of ministry.

Ian is the Foundation Chairman of the School Council of Shellharbour Anglican College (opened in 2004), a role that he will be continuing.

Ian and his family will remain living in Shell Cove.  Ian will be working in the Ministry Team across the Parish, particularly coordinating the Warrawong & Port Kembla services. His family are planning to attend the 7:15pm Service.

God’s gift to his people

Mothers Day is not the invention of the shopping centres!

The story of Mother’s Day is a long one. Contrary to the cynicism of many, it is not the recent invention of big shopping centres. Celebrations can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans who dedicated a day to honour the mother of their gods. During the 17th century, England introduced Mothering Sunday where children presented their mothers with flowers and special “mothering” cakes. America developed the idea at the beginning of the last century when Anna Jarvis pushed for mothers to receive due recognition for the enormous contribution they make to society.

Mother’s Day gives us the opportunity to recognise the service mothers provide to their children for the benefit of each individual and the health of society overall. God designed the system so that children can be nurtured. Let us give thanks for the deposits our mothers have invested into our lives.

Mother’s Day is the celebration of one of God’s gifts to His people.
