Beware of the Blame Game
People are interesting to observe. When humanity has a victory and things are going well we are quick to take the credit. However when disasters occur and we are caught up in situations that we can’t control, many are quick to blame God. This year I have encountered an extraordinary number of people who verbalise their upset at God. ‘How can He allow such things to occur and all the suffering?’
We forget that God has made promises to mankind that He is keeping. He promised that the result of turning away from Him is death. He told us that the very creation is groaning and suffering under the weight of our sin. He has created a world where there are consequences. The fall from the garden of Eden has resulted in a cosmos where things go wrong. God is constantly reminding us of our need for redemption and that we need Him.
God has kept His promises in punishing our sin and instituting real world consequences for mankind’s rebellion. He has also kept His word in providing a way of salvation in Jesus. God provides the way out and the ultimate restoration of a perfect world. Humanity must remember that it is our creator who judges us, not the other way around. He holds us responsible for the problems in the world and He bore the punishment for our mistakes.
