JESUS — God’s Tactical Response

Monday, December 7th, 2009

During one of our daytime Growth Groups (Bible Study) this week there was an interruption.  Two black vehicles manned by men in full tactical response equipment parked in the driveway.

The hostess of this Growth Group was naturally curious.  They simply said to her “we need to wait in your driveway for a while ma’am:”

About an hour later they roared into action and chased a car travelling at high speed.

Two days later in the Illawarra Mercury we learned that the tactical response group had busted a major drug selling group in Dapto and Wollongong.

From the moment Adam and Eve ate the fruit in the garden, Jesus was standing by as God’s tactical response.  Jesus waited until the time was right.  He then entered our world and busted the power of sin and death.

LIVING HAPPILY EVER AFTER … FOLLOWS PERSEVERENCE, CHARACTER AND HOPE

Monday, March 16th, 2009

This week another celebrity couple have separated and their family is broken. The lead line in one glossy magazine says; “the fairy tale is over!”

As I read fairy tales a different picture emerges. The “happily ever after” comes following a story of great crisis, danger, perseverance and heroism. Love grows under adversity and character is developed in the participants. The hero must overcome the adversity to win the prize.

In Romans 5:3-5, Paul reminds us …
Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

Our world seems to promote peace and prosperity as something that follows money, success and good fortune. No wonder a world financial crisis is such a CRISIS to many!

The peace God offers, transcends understanding and is forged by perseverance—not luck.

“Un-contacted Tribes really do exist”

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Last May one of Brazil’s last un-contacted tribes were spotted in the far western Amazon jungle. The Indians were sighted in an Ethno-Environmental Protected Area during a governmental flight. They photographed “strong & healthy” warriors. Their governmental policy is to ensure “total autonomy” and leave the isolated tribes alone.

Our “authority” said: “Go into all the world and make disciples.” We need to respect the culture of the lost tribes but we also have a responsibility to teach them about Jesus.

Closer to home, there may be some “lost tribes” in the houses next door to us in our streets. It may now be two or three generations since they had a meaningful contact with Christianity.

Whether near or far, Jesus has given us the task of making disciples. His promise to go with us assumes that we are “going”.
